I really want to have smart things control over it, any product recommendations to make this happen? I have the same situation in my house. Also, I will note, there are reports by some here recently that all or many switches in their home were inexplicably turned on by ST at a random time. For at least one this included their fireplace. Check your local residential code first. In some jurisdictions, for safety reasons, it is actually illegal to have any kind of remote control over a fireplace that would operate out of line of sight.
To proceed, please verify that you are not a robot.
It has happened. I will say this… There are quite a few different ways to do this… because there are a lot of different fireplaces. Your fireplace is probably When you open the switch on the wall, if there is a small wire looks like phone line maybe it is definitely low voltage.
I also use a ZFM relay. I modified the para, enter so the relay itself times out and turns off after 20 min, irrespective of what ST tells it to do. Works well for me, and the timer provides an additional level of safety. My plan is I have a temperature sensor in each room where I have fireplaces, and to have a piston set to turn the fireplace off automatically once the room has reached a certain temperature not only as an additional safety feature but as an automatic comfort feature as well.
Second, you want to make sure that whatever your safety feature is, it does not depend on SmartThings in any way to work. This is really important. Like the person who had all their Z wave devices start unexpectedly, including the fireplace switch. That means you want a failsafe outside the smart things platform.
"Alexa, Fireplace On"
So it would work even if SmartThings was off-line. So if you find out it is legal to do this in your area, then design both a SmartThings-controlled system to turn The switch on and a completely separate outside of smartthings failsafe to turn it off again If your safety parameters are exceeded.

I am not completely familiar or comfortable with the way the micro controller works.
Please tell me how I am supposed to wire this. Also, do I need another piece of equipment to make this work right? I want to make sure it is done right the first time. It is a gas fireplace and I really do NOT want to blow my self up. Plus, my wife will be super pissed if I burn down the house. Basically this switch is a relay that has the v completely separate from the low voltage.
And this should nicely replace your current switch for your fireplace.Huawei p30 lite frp bypass
Your only challenge is getting v to that outlet. As well as having the currently installed low voltage toggle switch work. Think if it kind of like the GE in wall light switch. I can turn the lights on at the switch, of with ST, and then back on with the switch. I do not want to replace the currently installed low voltage switch. I want to wire the ST control in, basically in parallel, to that switch so that I have physical control as well.
I just looked at your diagram and it appears that the bottom of your fireplace should have power going to it. So it should be fairly simple to do. Not sure how handy you are but this should only take about 10 minutes to do. I think you mean series. Also the switch has a physical button on it. I wish I had seen your response before writing the directions lol. What is your main concern with being able to turn it off? You should have 2 gas shutoff under the fireplace which is fairly easy to access.

I have two gas fireplaces that I would like to add to my system. I have heard of integrating fireplaces that have a remote control already in place. Does anyone know of a way to convert my control to something that could ultimately be controlled by C4? If you are referring to a manual gas control valve, then no.
Only variable, millivolt and electronic ignition control valves can be upgraded with RF remotes. If that knob you refer to is attached to any one of those, then you could try to hack a remote or go direct on the receiver with a CA relay. Mine is a manual gas control valve. If I had it replaced with an electronic valve are there any that would be preferable to using with C4? I doubt it. The general question always comes up- does it integrate well with Control4.
Control4 is not an end-all porduct. Nor does Control4 attempt to be everything to everybody. Anyways, if you are from an engineering background, you can probably figure this out with little difficulty. To start, check out Hearth Products. Here is a retail site for their conversion kits. I have a gas propane fireplace and a spa that is propane and five gas lamps that have electric glo plugs to start them. I integrated the gas lamps into Control 4 - no issue - the electric switch lights the glo plugs and the lamps go from there - no problem - never an issue.
The spa is another story - it is giving me total fits - I think that the driver for Jandy to Control 4 is buggy.
My fireplace - I said - no - if I want a fire I will use the remote that came with the fireplace - I did not want a screwup in MY programming to auto start the fire - well - amazing as it may seem we have some things that are wireless in the house that have been auto starting the fireplace, also a large door that operates RF has been opened once at AM.
My current fireplace seems to auto start at the drop of a hat - they have now said that the control board on it is defective and are replacing that. Well, you guys know where I stand with over-automation. I try hard not to talk negative on every single thread. His manual gas valve his not something you can automate directly. Neither of which is going to happen with Control4.I decided to to try to get Alexa to turn on and off my gas fireplace. The fireplace had no internet control built in but rather used a RF remote to turn the remote on and off.
Did you use this instructable in your classroom? Add a Teacher Note to share how you incorporated it into your lesson. After removing the back cover I could see that each button had 4 pins on the board.
I could measure that when the buttons were not pressed there was 3V across them and when the button is pressed the voltage drops to 0. However I ended up realizing that they actually have a common source which led me to use an optoisolator more on that in the next step.
At this point I soldered wires to the 4 pins that had easy connectors on them so I could easily connect the remote to my ESP or disconnect it.
Since this application was going to be plugged in directly to a wall I didn't need to take advantage of the size of the ESP or ESP directly, so I used a development board with a USB power and upload capability, making life much easier.
As of now everything is connected to a breadboard for easy manipulation, eventually I may solder it to a more permanent board. The circuit itself is pretty simple. There are two opto-isolators one for each button.
I used both a H11F1M and 4N35 successfully note the output pins are different on them. The basic idea for each one is that on the output side are the two wires across a button. Those two wires are disconnected unless the input anode and cathode LED has power in which case the two wires are connected and act as a short which triggers the remote's button. Each transistor's input is connected to a digital pin on the board D1 and D2 in my setup and to ground.
At a high level the sketch:. In my setup I have another piece of software see next step that centralizes all my home automation and allows me to connect to a static hostname.Sitex environmental, safety and rescue – sitex environmental
The final piece of the puzzle was to have Alexa be able to trigger the necessary HTTP requests to turn on the fireplace. All I did was edited this area of the code to provide the following:. However, since that IP address can change I wanted a more permanent solution. The code below is provided for reference but can easily be changed to meet your needs.
